Hide & Seek

(Daniel Bryant)

Hide & Seek

Young boy walkin’ down the avenue

Got his hands in his pockets and a brand new pair of shoes

Little boy walkin’ down the avenue

Got the world on your shoulders, hey boy, what’s troublin’ you?

What is it that you can’t see?

Are the answers so hard to believe?

Little girl walkin’ down the boulevard

In a bag she holds all the pieces of her broken heart

Little girl walkin’ down the boulevard

Left them all behind, so where are you gonna start?

Cause they’re all coming after you

And there’s nothing that you can do

Old man sitting by the side of the road

All the talent inside, is hidden by his overcoat

That old man sitting by the side of the road

Could show you things you’d never find on your own

But you just won’t believe

You look but you don’t see

We all wander around so aimlessly

Wrapped up in our selves, what happened to decency?

If our lives are just a game of hide & seek

I’ll stand on a mountain, scream “ole ole, out come free!”

Just ask and you shall receive?

The answers not hard to believe

There’s time to embrace honesty

There’s no difference between you and me

I know you don’t want to see

There’s no difference between you and me

Who are you gonna believe

When it all comes down to you and me?

The Game

(Daniel Bryant)

The Game

Walk in the room

Turn on the lights

The stage is set

Let’s start the lies, tonight

The bed looks old

Stains on the floor

She kicks off her shoes

So I lock the door

She looks at me says,

“Baby, what’s your name?

Are you ready to play this lonely game?

I gotta tell that some of the rules of changed

But don’t worry baby, it’s still the same old game”.

Smile on her face

She’s on her knees

Hands on my belt

She looks up at me, I step away

She says, “relax”

I say, “What’s the rush”

“Let’s take our time

I’ll give you more, if its not enough”

She looks at me, she says,

“Hey baby, are you sure you feel like playin today?

Cause if you don’t then I’ll be on my way

The night is long, so tell me baby, cause I’ve got other games to play”

We have a drink

And share a laugh

She takes my hand

And starts the dance

Backs to the door

I’m in her mouth

I close my eyes

Try to block it all out, but I can’t

She looks up at me says,

“Baby, is that nice?

Just relax and I’ll take you to paradise

If you’re getting close then I’ll take my time

The next move is yours, so baby, if you like this game then roll the dice”

Get lost inside

Of another’s touch

It hides the truth

I ache so much, sometimes

I smell her hair

I taste her tongue

I feel her skin

So soft, so young

I lose control

Hot turns to cold

She’s in her clothes

I lie there alone, and I want to hide

She’s out the door

I sit up in bed

The last words she said

Play around in my head

She said,

“Baby, don’t tell me your name

If I know your name, then I’ll feel ashamed

Trust me, baby, it’s best to leave it this way

Like I said, some of the rules have changed, but its still the same old game”

Young Lovers

(Daniel Bryant)

Young Lovers

Johnny went knockin’

Knockin’ on her window

Sally heard him callin’

Sayin’ baby why don’t we go

Cause there’s nothin’ out here for us

Can’t stay trapped here in this hole

Sally take my hand just trust me

Doesn’t matter which way we go

Sally opened up her window

Saw Johnny on his knees

He said baby can’t you feel it

Somethin’s pullin’ at me

I know somewhere down the highway

We’ll find peace and paradise

So take this first step with me

Let’s jump and feel alive

Sally said, oh Johnny, what are you sellin’ me

Everyone knows a journey like that will cost, there’s no way it’s free

But I know I can’t make without you here, so Johnny

Take my hand, I’ll run with you, just don’t disappoint me

They’re two young lovers in the night

Too young lovers have to fight

Too young lovers, out to prove that they are right

Two young lovers make they’re escape tonight

Johnny walked on with his baby

Sally held on to his arm

Didn’t know where they were headin’

Just knew it would be far

Sally walked with fear inside her

Fear of being left behind

She didn’t know the answers

Preying she was right

They all told them they were too young

If it’s right you’ll know in time

They kept them locked behind doors

Prison sentence for a love crime

Johnny thought he had it worked out

Take his girl and run away

But the weight of all her trust in him

Brought doubt, he lost his way

Sally said, oh Johnny are we going the right way

The spark that was in your eyes has left you and gone away

I don’t know if what we’re doin’ is wrong, but I have to say

If we turn back now we’ll live to fight another day

They’re two young lovers in the night

Too young lovers have to fight

Too young lovers out to prove that they are right

Two young lovers make they’re escape tonight

Johnny stopped and saw his baby

Saw the fear in Sally’s eyes

He wiped away his baby’s tears

And said Sally realize

I can’t live a day without you

But I never will go back there

Cause you’re the only thing there for me

And its too much for you to bear

So take yourself on back home

Don’t worry I’ll be fine

I know you’ll find your own way

It just might take a little time

Take my ring home with you

You’ll miss me, but just know

You’ll always be my baby

I’ll be right outside your window

Sally said, oh Johnny don’t you talk like that, can’t you see you’re killin me

There’s no way I’m going without you, I don’t care what you’re telling me

I’m scared right now but just give it time, and you will see

There’s no peace or paradise without you and me

They’re two young lovers in the night

Too young lovers have to fight

Too young lovers out to prove that they are right

Two young lovers make they’re escape tonight

Two young lovers head off into the night

Dead End Town

(Daniel Bryant)

Dead End Town

They ask when I’m leavin’,well, what can I say

If I had one wish, I’d be leavin’ today

We all make plans but they all go astray

Thought I found a way out but I lost my

So now I keep livin’ in Dead End Town

All the faces are see are now the victims of age

The stories they tell, well they all end the same

My buddy’s are gone, the got jobs outta here

The girls that are left, well, there ain’t enough beer

To hide all the feelings in Dead End Town

As kids we all dream, we set our goals so high

But day to day life cuts them all down to size

Mary wanted to sing, Robby wanted to fly

Now they’ve got kids and both work 9 to 5

Population keeps growing in Dead End Town

Hey Mister, can you help me read that sign?

Cause I’ve been trying so long, think there’s something wrong with me eyes

It says, “boy, you’ll find your own way in time…

Just keep your eyes on the road and you’ll be just fine”

Alarm starts screamin and I crawl outta bed

Another day of letting it all fuck with my head

Don’t wanna play, but I keep getting caught

These shoulders are broad, c’mon, pile your shit on

It’s always the weak that kick a man while he’s down

Takes so much strength to find higher ground

I’m packed and ready, when my time comes around

I’ll be laughin’ my way out of Dead End Town

Hey Mister, can you help me read that sign?

Cause I’ve been trying so long, think there’s something wrong with me eyes

It says, “boy, you’ll find your own way in time…

Just keep your eyes on the road and you’ll be just fine…

The journey is long, stay strong, you’ll get there in time”

This Thing

(Daniel Bryant)

This Thing

I feel it when we pass

So close we almost touch

How do we bridge this distance between us

I see it in your eyes

A look no one else can see

And in that gaze I recognize what I’ve never seen

I hear it in your voice

At least I hope I do

Cause it seems the path that I’ve chosen has lead me here to you

Is there meaning in these words

As I sit with pen in hand

Finally read to leave this behind

Wanna feel, wanna live, wanna take this ride

And take a chance on this thing

On this thing I’ve been missing

But I didn’t know I’d lost

This thing is all brand new

But I think I can make

As long as I’m here with you

If we can last this storm

If we can keep out of the rain

Somewhere we may find a place where there’s passion in every move

These few simple words

Have brought me to this place

Gave me direction I needed and the courage to say

That for you, I’ll take this chance

But I warn you the journey is long

Together we’ll find the answers

We’ll put brush to canvas and lyric to song

If we take, we take a chance on this thing

On this thing I’ve been missing

But I didn’t know I’d lost

This thing is all brand new

But I think I can make

As long as I’m here with you

My Darling, Connie

My Darling, Connie

Sago Mine, West Virginia

January 2, 2006

My darling, Connie

If these words reach you before I do, don’t you worry for me

I didn’t feel anything

Now I just want to sleep and dream of you

It’s so dark in here

And there’s nothing around me but silence

But I’m not scared

There’s nothing they can do

I close my eyes and I see you

Thank you

Don’t know what I did to deserve you

You were too good for me

There aren’t enough words to say how much I love you

God, I hope you know

My darling, Connie

Do you remember when we met

I tried to play it so cool - I was such a young fool

Such a beauty, you made me the envy of every man

I feel so cold

And I hear a voice, it’s calling

Connie darling, is it you

I wanna go home and close my eyes

And be with you

My darling, Connie

One more thing before I go

Promise me you’ll be strong and find a way to carry on

Cause you’ve got your life to lead

Don’t you worry for me

Just know, I love you

You’ll be fine, my love

Good bye.

Like a theatrical performance this album pulls you in with a seductive opening number (Jekyll & Hyde), memorable characters, and a range of emotions from each track to the next. Winding you up, for a powerhouse of a final act (Redemption). Like a story being carefully woven to its audience MIRROR narrates its many characters with heart and soul. If you haven't purchased this album yet I strongly encourage you to do so now.
